1st Class Relics, a very special gift

Our daughter was given recently the above relics of what we believe to be 1st class relics of saints.

This is such an awesome gift, and a privilege to have these relics!

The dear friend who gave it to her will hopefully soon be her confirmation sponsor.

We hope to have the piece authenticated soon. But the most fun is searching and learning about these holy people. What a wonderful gift especially with All Saints Day coming up!

Update:

From a reliable source, we have found out that this is most likely authentic.  There is some interesting history behind it.  It was probably put together in the 1800’s by some nuns in France.  The practice of nuns putting Thecas together was not unheard although it was not right (because only a bishop etc should do this) their practice was overlooked.  These were usually given to benefactors, family and other nuns.  We would never be able to get papers so it could be used in public veneration, but it is perfect for private and will be treasured!  The code of canon law was updated to reflect in 1917 that this practice is strictly forbidden.  But this doesn’t dampen our spirits one bit.  Ya just gotta come see us to see the relics!

A good site I found and that has helped tremendously For All The Saints.

We will wait till Saturday to introduce you to our saints!

  1. This is beautiful. I reminds me of the relics on display at the St. Anthony Hospital in St. Louis. Glass cases lined in red moire taffeta with row upon row of these beautifully labled relics. (I haven’t seen any for years until we visited St. Anne de Beau prie in Quebec this past May. BTW May in Quebec is like Florida in January. )

I was always a little in awe of relics. My extended family on my father’s side is Protestant and they have no clue as to what to make of these. As an adult, someone, perhaps Scott Hahn pointed out in the Bible people bringing the sick just so Peter’s shadow might fall on them.

I hope your daughter has a blessed confirmation. I hope she has all the fun she can preparing for it!

  2. Thanks.
We are a little dumb when it comes to relics and we are Catholic! So everything we are learning is new to us.

This is one of the most beautiful ones I have seen. There was a lot of time spent by a sister doing this, praying as she did.
Part of the fun is finding out who and where! It is a small mystery and I hope to post as we progress in our finding out more about this one.
